Inside scoop on the Bishop Blanchet JVC girls soccer team
October 12, 2015
The Bishop Blanchet JVC girls soccer team never fails to have fun.
While they work hard on improving their skills on a daily basis, with practice everyday and several games a week, the girls have an overall love for the game.
“The goal for our players,” head coach of JVC said, “is to have fun and learn about the sport.”
The JVC program prepares their girls for varsity one day by building on existing skills and teaching the girls on how to work together as a team.
“We know how to have fun,” said coach Quigley, “but we could use some more discipline and preparation for our games.”
The girls usually start practices with variations of keep away and juggling for warm ups, then go on to practice their skills with the ball, like dribbling through cones or cutting the ball with different parts of their feet. The girls work weekly on what they need to get better at, and that’s usually the main chunk of practice. Toward the end of practice they focus on scrimmaging or conditioning. They sometimes try to make practice fun by playing a game called soccer-tennis.
Practices before games usually focus less on conditioning. “We don’t want to be physically exhausted before a match,” said coach Quigley, ” the recovery time from a tough workout takes longer than a nights rest to come back from.”
Coaching soccer is an important part of coach Quigley’s life.
“The girls bring me so much joy, and they teach me so much throughout our season!” said Quigley. “We all learn from each other!”

The JVC team would love more fans at their games. Their upcoming games are all away; one is against Seattle Prep at Seattle Prep and two more are against Garfield at Garfield.
