The most anticipated movie of the year was released on December 18, 2015.

The new sequel to the Star Wars collection; Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken all anticipated records, becoming ranked as one of the top 5 movies of all time to break box office sales.

Star Wars has been one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Hard core Star Wars fans stood in line dressed in different character costumes and star wars t-shirts. During the week of the premiere crowds stood for hours to be the first let into the theater, 2 weeks later and the lines have only shortened by a trifling amount.

“If you look back at the old movies,” said junior Dylan Lamb, “this new movie does a good job keeping old ideas and themes, but also incorporating new ones.”

The new movie has brought back familiar faces Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew and Harrison Ford returning as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and Han Solo. The movie has added some new faces as well, with a new director; J.J. Abrams (who had previously directed Star Trek before switching over to direct the Force Awakens), Oscar Isaac, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley as Poe Dameron, Finn, and a scavenger Rey.

“I really like Chubaka, he is probably my favorite character,” said junior Will Karges, “I also really like Rey as well.”

The story takes place three years after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, a new protagonist Rey is introduced into the storyline with parallel characteristics to the great, Luke Skywalker.

The Rebellion tries to protect the galaxy from yet another threat from the First Order, with Rey the scavenger and several other rag tag members, along with Han Solo, and Princess Leia, they are the galaxies only chance for safety.

“The story line interesting,” said Lamb, “I thought the movie producers did a good job with the story plot, especially leaving questions that will be answered in later movies. Which I felt left the audience to look forward to the next movie in the series.”

George Lucas had previously signed over the rights to Star Wars to Disney for $4 billion.

Some people find small differences within the movie and some found the whole movie to feel different.

“The whole movie just felt different to me,” said junior Stephanos Buhler, “I still thought the movie was pretty good though.”

Critics have rated The Force Awakens as a solid 8.5/10 stars. But not everyone agrees with this rating.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens was probably the biggest let down of 2015,” said junior Lucas Gordon, “I just thought it sucked compared to the old ones.”

In all, critics and fans have raved about the movie and how great of a job Disney has done. Few have been able to say it was a letdown.
