Braves soccer falls to 1-6

Easter break was not  a resurrection experience for the Bishop Blanchet varsity score team, dropping games to Metro foes Ingraham, Franklin, and then a 4A Kingco foe, Bothell.

With an overall record of 1 win and 6 losses, the Braves are currently at the bottom of Metro’s Sound division.

During the break, the boys played the Ingraham Rams, and a porous defense gave up five goals, three coming from the foot of Benjy Nurick. Two late goals by the Braves made the final score look close, but most of the game was in the firm control of the Ram’s midfielders and forwards.

The Franklin Quakers were anything but friendly against the Brave defense,  scoring three goals while shutting out the Braves’ offense.

“The season has been a little rough”, said junior Chris Condon, “but we are definitely starting to become more of a team.”

The new week brought the same results as the Braves faced 4A Kingco opponent, Bothell, falling to the Cougars 3-1.  Bothell score twice in the first half, and one in the second.  The Braves scored their only goal in the second half.

The team is young, and  shows  potential, but with two seniors, they have to be looking towards the future.

“The growth and progress”, said junior Colby Hilt, “has been the highlight of the season so far for me.”

Experience, however, pays dividends, and the Braves are short on htat.

“During the Bothell game” said senior Jack Robel, “we were keeping up with them, then they scored two more times. It’s tough during games when you start off well and they get a leg up on you.”

The Braves have seven games left in their season.  They play the first against the Davis Pirates from Yakima  this Saturday at 2 p.m. on Mickey Naish field.  Next week brings matches against undefeated O’Dea (5-0-2) and Bainbridge (2-3-2).
