Strong Hitting Propels Braves to a Winning Week
April 15, 2016
Picking up both of their wins on the road, your Blanchet Braves varsity baseball squad has gone 2-1 in competition since our last report.
This winning margin came as a result of one of the team’s hottest hitting weeks thus far. With a combined 24 runs over the course of 3 games, the Braves had little to no trouble getting on the board this last week.
However, the margin of runs from game-to-game attests to one of the team’s demons all season long—inconsistency. Issues of consistency presented themselves as the team brought in an astonishing 15 runs in an easy victory last Friday, April 8th and followed that up with a mere 3 in their proceeding game in the team’s lone loss for the week last Monday, April 11th.
“I think if we show that we can hit to our full potential on a consistent bases, we should be good going forward” said Junior, Nate Spear. “On a day when we’re feeling it, we can beat anybody.”
With team performances ranging from blowout, feel-good wins to gut-wrenching, closing inning collapses; a regular consistency both behind the plate as well as on the mound remain the only question marks for this talented squad.
“To get better moving forward, I think we can always hit the ball a little better” said senior Adam Gryniewicz. “We can get on teams a little earlier and exploit their weaknesses. And really just continue to do what we’ve been doing and get closer as a team.”
Currently in a tie for second place in the Metro Division, the team will face one of their most difficult challenges to date as they take on Eastside Catholic this Friday, April 15.
A statement game to say the least, the team is fully aware that picking up a win against one of the two teams they are tied with in the division standings could serve as a huge factor to their success moving towards the postseason.
“Eastside Catholic is going to be our most difficult challenge this week because they’re a consistently good team each year and they’ve got some solid pitching and it’s going be a good test for our hitting. We really need our pitching to step up for this one if we want to pull out a win” said junior Dylan Lamb.
The Braves take on Eastside this afternoon at home with senior Alex Merrywell taking the mound for the first pitch at 3:30. Come down to Lower Woodland to watch what is sure to be a solid head-to-head matchup and a great test for the Braves.
