Braves tennis lose well fought match against Lakeside

The Bishop Blanchet tennis team, in action Thursday against a tough Lakeside squad,  fought hard, but came up short as the Lions proved to be  just too much.

Junior John Bennett played doubles alongside freshman Felix Shuler. The boys didn’t come out on top, but their performance was something they can definitely build on.

“I felt the results of the matches didn’t show how we played,” said Bennett. “Every single person on the team played really really well, but we didn’t get the results we were looking for.”

Tommy Kane and Charlie Loveland also paired together to take on Lakeside’s top doubles duo. Although Kane and Loveland fell just short of a victory, these boys had great chemistry and never let up during the match.

“It was a great match,” said Kane. “We both played pretty well, but unfortunately we cracked under the pressure when we were up and couldn’t take advantage of our opportunities. After our match I feel like a rivalry has been formed.”

Junior Sam Conroy and senior captain Katie Odland took on the Lakeside top girls duo, but unfortunately, the result was the same as the other doubles teams and ended up the short end of the racket.

“Although the team hasn’t had a lot of success this season,” said Odland, “we all are having loads of fun and never get down on each other. We truly believe we have tons of talent on the team, but the results are showing our hard work we put in day in and out.”

With heads held high, the team looks to their upcoming match against the Crusaders of Eastside Catholic in hopes of bouncing back and starting a winning streak that will carry them to the end of the season.
