When life gives you lemons, make Lemonade
April 29, 2016
It’s here! Beyoncé’s new album, Lemonade, was released on Saturday, April 23rd.
This album marks her sixth studio album within 13 years. Her albums consist of Dangerously In Love, B’Day, I Am… Sasha Fierce, 4, Beyoncé, and now Lemonade. Her last album, Beyoncé, was released just two years ago and was a top seller with over 5 million copies sold worldwide.
Lemonade was released exclusively on Tidal and two days later, after being released on iTunes, earned its spot at number one on the iTunes top ten chart. Following the album’s release was a visual album also titled Lemonade, which aired on HBO the same day. Some of the new singles include, “Sorry”, “Don’t Hurt Yourself”, “All Night”, and “Formation”.
The sound that Lemonade gives off is very unique because it includes her true emotions. She found this album as a way to express who she really is.
Featured on the album are artists such as Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Jack White, and James Blake.
The world is going crazy over the album for one main reason, the problems she reveals in her marriage to famous rapper Jay Z. As she reveals in one of her singles, “Don’t Hurt Yourself”, Jay Z previously cheated on the singer. She mentions lines such as, “this is your final warning” and “you’re gonna lose your wife”.
Beyoncé uses the album to address more problems besides a cheating husband. For example, she mentions the role of bad fathers being poor role models, the suffering of African American women in America, and an individual’s responsibility for their empowerment in the world.
Following new music comes a massive world tour, which is exactly what Beyoncé is doing. The North American leg of the tour started on Wednesday, April 27th, in Miami, FL and will close on June 12th, in Hershey, PA. The European leg of the tour begins on June 28th in Sunderland, UK and will close on July 31st in Brussels, BE.
