Rebecca Cantrell hired as 2016-2017 Choral director

Dr. Twila McDonell to return full-time to the Theology, while Jazz choir director Mr. Angus McDonell will return to full-time youth ministry.

Rebecca Cantrell will serve as the director of all BBHS choirs during the 2016-2017 school year.

Ms. Rebecca Cantrell will serve as the Director of Choral Music for the 2016-2016 school year.

Cantrell, originally from Arizona, earned a B.M. in Voice Performance and a minor in German from Arizona State University.  She is completing her MA in Music Education at the University of Washington and is currently finishing her teaching internship at Ballard High School.

In her collegiate education she has received numerous academic awards, including a National Merit Scholarship, the Herberger Institute Award and the Special Talent award from ASU.

In addition to her musical education training, Cantrell has extensive experience in choral direction and vocal performance.  She is conductor of the Piccolini Choir for the Seattle Girls’ Choir.  She is the Opera Time teaching artist for the Seattle Opera and Director of the Skyline Chorale.

Cantrell is or has been a choral member several ensembles or chorales including UW Chamber Singers, Choral Arts, Solis Camerata, Arizona State University Concert Choir, several Cathedral choirs, and the World Youth Honor Choir.

In musical theatre, she has performed roles in The Music Man, Les Miserables, Albert Herring, and Bastien and Bastienne, among others.

The position is currently held by Dr. Twi McDonell and Mr. Angus McDonell, both of whom stepped into the positions with the late August departure of Mr. Craig Schell, who held the job for over ten years.

Dr. McDonell will return to her teaching assignment in the Theology department, a place where her expertise and passion for the Catholic faith is also needed.  Mr. McDonell remains as Youth Minister at Holy Rosary Parish in Edmonds.
