Looking past Trump’s sexism has proved harder than it sounds.

“Fat Pig.”
“Disgusting Animals.”
Look, maybe it’s because I am a woman, but I just can’t seem to watch this year’s presidential election unfold any longer. September 26 was the first round of the presidential debates. I sat by my computer screen last night to watch, and, honestly, couldn’t get through twenty minutes.
I can’t stand to watch Donald Trump objectify women.
Trump once said, “Nobody respects women like Donald Trump.”
Really?
Now, his policies alone aren’t too terrible. As a self-acclaimed conservative, I could get behind some of Trump’s ideas for America, like some tax reform and simplification.
I’m not saying he is a bad candidate; however, I am saying he is a bad man.
Trump has time and time again offended women and their humanity. The controversy all began in 1996 when Venezuela’s Alicia Machado was crowned the winner of the Miss Universe Pageant.
You see, Trump owned the pageant company until 2015, and he openly shamed Machado’s looks and heritage. He went as far as calling her an “eating machine” in a radio interview with Howard Stern.
“After that episode, I was sick with anorexia and bulimia for five years,” Machado said to a New York Times reporter. “Over the past 20 years, I’ve gone to a lot of psychologists to combat this.”
If you are still not convinced of Trump’s flagrant disrespect for women, just be aware that this is one case in many hundreds of reported incidents.
The New York Times ran a story this year called “Crossing the Line: How Donald Trump behaved with Women in Private”. The Times interviewed more than fifty women pertaining their interactions with Trump. Some were romantic interests, others coworkers, and some were just very unlucky women who happened to encounter Trump, like Machado. This in-depth piece analyses the downright absurd things that Trump has said to women throughout his three wives, romantic flings, and countless illegitimate relations.
Trump would not be so infamous had he not leaked his misogynistic views into his presidential campaign. As the republican party nominee, Trump’s main opponent is Democrat Hilary Clinton. Clinton has got a whole lot of things going against her. The American social media has portrayed her as an untrustworthy candidate, which Clinton has only perpetuated by doing, well, untrustworthy things. Trump’s biggest mistake? Instead of focusing on Clinton as an intelligent politician, he focuses on the fact that she is a woman.
Trump’s sexism has smeared his campaign, not only for myself but for many female voters around the country. Graphs have been released that show that Clinton leads Trump by fifteen percent in female voters. Her clever campaign team has started to capitalize on his stupidity by creating several campaign videos geared towards female voters, seen left.
With insensitive commentary towards women, the American woman is starting to get behind the idea that maybe Trump isn’t the best man, role model, or potential leader of our country.
