November 7, 2016
The Blanchet varsity football team outran and outscored the Cleveland Eagles with a score of 29-14 to advance to District playoffs last Saturday.
“The team prepared by watching film,” said junior Chayle Tolentino. “After understanding the way Cleveland played, the coaches made a plan on ways we could win…and we ran scout teams that helped prepare us for the game.”
The Braves started practice last Monday before the game by attacking different methods to outsmart Cleveland. Observing Cleveland’s offense and defensive lines helped them to anticipate their plays and the way they worked as a team.
“The team executed their offensive plays well,” said junior Calvin Chao. “As the defense played hard and physical, stopping offensive drives.”
A week full of hard work and dedication payed off for the Braves as they performed as a team. Every play was an opportunity for the Braves to outplay Cleveland’s lines.
“Will Merriman’s touchdown run helped bring momentum to our side,” said Chayle Tolentino. “It carried throughout our game to help secure our win and keep our playoff dreams alive.”
Merriman was one of the leaders on the field helping to encourage the team to play hard as he made big, crucial plays. Inspired and fired up, the Braves snatched their spot in the District playoffs.
The Braves will travel to Vancouver to play the Mountain View Thunder this Saturday at 7p.m.
