On Friday September 15, the Boys’ Cross Country team placed first in the 5,000 Meter race.

“Overall, it’s been a great start to the season,” said senior runner Will Fleming “I’m excited for the rest of it and believe we can continue to be very successful.”

Leading the Braves, with a time of 17:00.58, was Michael Lewis who placed respectable second. Kai Gundlach finished third and Andrew Hogan finished fourth as well. Bishop Blanchet excelled with six of the top ten placements belonging to the Braves and the team as a whole finishing with 25 points. Their score of 25 was a 6 point differential from second place O’Dea.

Will Fleming has an optimistic outlook on his team’s abilities.

“Our team is a talented group and has an opportunity to do something really special this season.” said Fleming.

With this talented group, there’s hope for another season that will end with a trip to state to repeat last year’s success. Last year, the Braves finished tenth at the 3A WIAA State XC meet, and their season ended at the event. The experience from last should help the team be more competitive.

The Boys’ Cross Country team compete next on Wednesday September 20 and run against Ingraham, Sealth, and Roosevelt. The meet begins at 4:20 and is located at Magnuson Park.
