Kyle Scott Cheers on the Braves for the First Time

For the first time in the school’s history, Bishop Blanchet has a male cheerleader.

Soon after tryouts for the cheer squad in the spring of 2017, sophomore Kyle Scott found out that he had made the team, and that he was the first male to ever do so.

Scott has always been passionate about Bishop Blanchet sporting events and eventually decided that cheer was something he had to do.

“I realized that at the end of the year there were cheer tryouts,” said Scott. “I knew that that’s what I wanted to do.”

Scott knew that he would be the only male trying out for the team, so he was not surprised when he was the only male there. Any doubts held by Scott quickly faded when he made the team and spoke to the other members.

“All the comments that were said to my face were all positive and congratulatory,” said Scott.

Scott is glad that he tried out for the team, not only because of all of the positive comments, but also because the cheer squad has become some of his closest friends, which undoubtedly would never have happened if he hadn’t tried out.

The experience has not only taught the school that anyone can be the first anything, but also that more people should think like Scott.

“I don’t really care what other people think of me as long as I am happy doing what I’m doing and being true to myself,” said Scott. “That’s all that matters.”

After claiming the title as Blanchet’s first ever male cheerleader, Scott truly hopes that he won’t be the last.

“My biggest hope is that I won’t be the last either,” said Scott. “Hopefully by tryouts at the end of this year there will be multiple other guys who tryout.”

Scott is having a great time this year on the cheer team and is glad that he made the bold step to try out.

“I love Blanchet and cheer,” said Scott. “I’m glad that I can show my love for both this year!”
