This Restaurant isn’t JV: Varsity Café Delivers a Delicious Dish

Gigi Gallaudet, Reporter

The Varsity Café serves up a hearty portion for the whole neighborhood.

After a big night at Bishop Blanchet’s 2018 Winter Ball, a few friends and I were fiending for some comfort food the next morning. We had heard great things about The Varsity’s brunch options, so we decided to pay the establishment a visit.

Located on the busy 65th Street, finding a suitable parking spot was a bit of an endeavor. Once inside the restaurant though, the service was impeccable.

The Varsity gives off strong neighborhood-gathering-place vibes, with friendly waitresses and a bulletin posted with local events around the Ravenna area.

I started off my order with a decadent hot chocolate, which was among the many café options, along with cappuccinos and london fogs. It was served to me steaming hot and topped with a heap of whip cream.

The Brunch menu was stacked with seemingly endless options of scrambles, omelettes, sandwiches, and more. While the Varsity is open for lunch, it was clear that brunch is where it holds most of its bandwidth.

I ordered the vegetarian scramble, which was full of mushrooms and spinach, then topped with hollandaise. It was a flavorful dish, extremely hearty, and very satisfying. I left that day with a full stomach and a friendly farewell from the staff, who told me to come back soon.

The Varsity is a family owned restaurant that has been in operation for over 50 years. It is open at 7am on weekdays and 7:30 on weekends, and closes at 3pm. It is open every day except for Christmas.
