Abuse Allegations End Porter’s Political Career Early

The White House Staff Secretary, Rob Porter, resigned early in the morning of February 7, days after abuse allegations arose from his two former wives.

 

Assigned with the crucial task of controlling the paper flow that makes it inside the president’s office, Porter is not an individual known by the public, but nonetheless has inexplicably continued to do his essential job, for over a year, without being granted appropriate security clearance individuals working his job are expected to obtain. This is believed to be partially due to the lingering consequences of his wives allegations regarding physical and emotional abuse throughout their marriage.

 

In an interview with The Daily Mail, Porter’s ex-wives described a marriage tainted with abuse from beginning to end.

 

That whole week, or however long it was, several days, of our honeymoon was spent with me trying not to make him upset.” said his second wife Jennifer Willoughby. “ He pulled me naked from the shower by the shoulders and yelled at me.”

Porter’s opinion towards the matter is quite the contrary and claims the allegations have no legitimacy.

Colbie Holderness, Mr. Porter’s first wife, shared a similar story as Willoughby regarding her experience throughout her marriage with Porter.

“It was verbally, emotionally and physically abusive” said Holderness in an interview with The Daily Mail. In photographs she gave to The Intercept, Holderness has a blackened right eye and a swollen cheekbone.

The Bishop Blanchet Community, empowered by the #MeToo movement, voiced opinions of support for his former wives.

“I believe the cultural awareness that has been raised surrounding abuse towards women has allowed this situation, and many alike, to come to an end,” said Junior Andrew Simmons. “It’s great to see so much attention brought to such a sensitive topic.”

Another topic that arose out of the situation was the concern for our nation’s security.

“I’m confused and somewhat concerned as to how Porter was enabled to operate as part of such a crucial component of our government for almost a year without security clearance.” said Sophomore Matt Martin.

These allegations, alongside many others, are opening up the doors for a cultural revolution against the suppression of abuse amidst our society as well as raising relevant concerns towards the Trump Administrations disregard for internal upkeep.
