Senior Sunday starts with a walk in the park
September 21, 2014
At 7:30 on a bright, Sunday, Seahawk gameday morning nearly 90 Bishop Blanchet seniors took to the the streets to commit to getting to know themselves, their classmates, and the Lord.
The five hour walking retreat, hosted by the Campus Ministry but led in prayer my teams of students, had the goal of bringing the class closer together through testimonials.
“It was a really good experience,” said senior Katie Stutz. “By hearing other people’s stories about their virtues and values, it opened up new perspectives for me.”
The route took the class and its faculty leaders, through Upper Woodlawn, down along Green Lake to Ravenna, then up to Cowen Park.
Along the way, classmates were encouraged to walk with classmates they barely knew, to begin the process of unifying as a class.
When stops came, student leaders read reflection pieces about the way God has touched their lives.
“I was very moved by those stories,” said Stutz.
The stories ranged from family tales to large events, and each gave the class insights as to how the little they really know about each other as well as how closely they are bound together.
The event ended in the cafeteria for one more reflection and lunch.
